Federal regulation concerning gas pipeline safety requires notification to customers of their right to request an Excess Flow Valve (EFV) be installed in their existing gas service line. The EFV is not mandatory and will be installed at the customer’s expense. It will be the customer’s responsibility for all lawn restoration after installation.
An EFV is a safety device designed to automatically stop the flow of gas in the event of a service line break. An EFV is not designed to protect against meter set leaks, appliance leaks or small service line punctures.
As with any mechanical device, an EFV may malfunction causing a temporary loss of natural gas service. If you choose to have an EFV installed, the cost of maintenance and/or replacement, if the device fails, would also be at the customer’s expense.
If you would like to have an EFV installed call KNG at 800-434-3427 to schedule an appointment for the installation.
